Terms of Service

1. Scope

These terms govern the Lingolix Kanji app on iOS, Android and the web, and its related services (the "Service"), provided by Lingolix UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Undinestr. 5, 12203 Berlin, Germany, registered at the Amtsgericht Charlottenburg under HRB 277621 B ("Lingolix", "we"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms. For using the pronunciation API, the API terms apply instead.

2. The Service

Lingolix helps you learn Japanese kanji with a shape-centric method: learning materials, stroke practice, pronunciation drills and a personal spaced repetition system (SRS).

3. Subscriptions and billing

  • Free tier: the first 50 kanji and their vocabulary are free.
  • Full access: the complete JĹŤyĹŤ kanji set requires a monthly subscription. Prices include VAT.
  • Billing: through the Apple App Store, Google Play or, on the web, Stripe. The terms of the respective platform also apply to payment.
  • Renewal and cancellation: the subscription renews monthly until you cancel it in your account settings on the respective platform. After cancellation you keep access until the end of the paid period; afterwards your account returns to the free tier. Kanji you have already learned stay available for review.
  • Price changes: we announce them in good time before they take effect. They apply only if you continue the subscription; you can cancel before then.

4. Right of withdrawal

If you are a consumer and subscribe on the web, you have the statutory right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving a reason, by a clear statement to info@lingolix.com. If you ask us to start the subscription immediately and confirm that you lose your right of withdrawal once we have begun, the right expires when access starts. For purchases in the App Store or Google Play, the refund rules of Apple or Google apply.

5. Your content

  • Our content: the learning materials, texts, graphics and user interface belong to us. You may use them for your personal, non-commercial learning through the Service.
  • Your content: stroke drawings, voice recordings and notes you create remain yours. You allow us to use them to provide the Service to you, for example for your SRS schedule and your feedback, and to improve our learning models, as described in our privacy policy. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

6. Fair use

Please do not try to unlock paid content without a subscription, reverse-engineer our models, or infringe the rights of others. You are responsible for activity in your account.

7. Privacy and data export

Our privacy policy explains how we handle your personal data. You can export your learning data as JSON at any time.

8. Termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account after a serious or repeated breach of these terms; where possible we warn you first.

9. Liability

  • We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act.
  • For slight negligence, we are liable only for breach of an essential contractual obligation, limited to the damage that is typical and foreseeable for this type of contract. Otherwise our liability for slight negligence is excluded.

10. Applicable law and disputes

German law applies. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the country where you live. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

11. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we tell you in advance. Changes to essential parts of the contract, such as prices or scope, apply only with your consent. If you do not agree, you can cancel your subscription.
